  1. 01

Pass the written test and get the instructional permit at 15.

The instructional permit, also called a learner's permit or CP, is for 15-year-olds who pass the written test. Submit the online form before you go, and bring the school enrollment form.

  2. 02

    Finish Joshua's Law training.

For a Class D license at 16 or 17, Joshua's Law requires 30 hours of driver education, plus either 6 hours behind the wheel or 40 hours of parent-taught training, and 40 hours of supervised driving with 6 of those at night. A 17-year-old who has enlisted in the military may be exempt from the permit-holding period. Confirm that exemption with DDS before you skip it.

Behind-the-wheel training, or parent-taught practice if you use that option.

Topics Georgia learners often miss

  • Road signs (separate section)

Georgia commonly scores road signs on their own — treat sign ID as a must-pass track, not an afterthought.

  • Road rules & right-of-way

Intersections, yielding, and everyday road-rule questions that trip people up on the rules half of the exam.

  • School zones & following distance

School-zone rules and safe following distance (including 3-second-style guidance) show up often in GA prep materials.

  • Safe driving & alcohol limits

Alcohol awareness and safe-driving habits from the Georgia Driver’s Manual — must-know for permit prep.

FAQ

Is this a free Georgia DDS practice test?
Yes. You can start free Georgia practice tests on VehiWheel — the first 3 GA tests at no cost. The Exam Emulator uses that same free pool until you unlock Premium for the full bank.
Does this help with the Georgia permit knowledge exam?
Yes. The DDS written knowledge exam (road rules + road signs) is what most learners mean by the Georgia permit test. VehiWheel practices those knowledge topics for Georgia. Always pair practice with the official Georgia Driver’s Manual.
Why are road signs so important in Georgia?
Georgia commonly splits the knowledge exam into Road Rules and Road Signs and requires a passing score on each section. A perfect rules score won’t save a weak signs score — practice both tracks carefully, then confirm exact scoring on your Exam Emulator and the official Driver’s Manual.
Is Georgia DDS the same as a Georgia DMV?
Georgia driver licensing is run by the Department of Driver Services (DDS), not a statewide office branded “DMV.” People still search “Georgia DMV practice test” — VehiWheel labels GA prep as DDS so it matches official language, while covering the same knowledge-test intent.
Is VehiWheel the official Georgia DDS?
No. We are an independent study app. Selecting Georgia loads GA-focused practice and exam content. Confirm fees, appointments, and final rules on the official DDS site and Driver’s Manual.
